Mr. Levesque has over 30 years of experience in the Canadian financial industry. Under his leadership, he continues to lead his team in identifying product development and business partnering opportunities. In his career, Mr. Levesque has directly and indirectly facilitated transactions of approximately $1 billion.
Mr. Levesque is a founder, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Qwest Investment Management Corp. (“QIM”), a Canadian financial services and asset management company which continues to attract key leadership to the team to continue the company’s successful business growth. He is also the Chairman, CEO and Chief Compliance Officer of Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd. (“QIFM”), a 100% wholly owned subsidiary of QIM. Mr. Levesque leads QIFM’s corporate governance operations and the company is registered as an investment fund manager, a portfolio manager and an exempt market dealer. Currently, these companies provide services and products which include mutual funds, limited partnerships, income trusts, REITs and alternative yield products.
Mr. Levesque is a founder and/or a director of several private companies which operate in a wide variety of industries. He is a director and an officer of Imperial Ginseng Products Ltd., Canada’s only publicly traded ginseng farming company with operations in Ontario. He is also a director and President of Knightswood Financial Corp., a specialized financial service company providing private companies with a solution to raise capital from registered plans. Most recently, Mr. Levesque was appointed Chairman of the board of directors for Associated National Brokerage Inc./Griffin Skye Corporation.
Mr. Levesque is driven by his entrepreneurial spirit and desire to build a winning team of valued people. He continues to seek knowledge and understanding and graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology with a diploma in Administration Management. He is a member of the Private Capital Markets Association of Canada.
John is the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Qwest Investment Management Corp. Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Director of Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd., Executive Vice President and Director of Qwest Funds Corp. and is responsible for overseeing all the aspects of operations, finance and tax reporting. John will also be providing leadership for the continuation of the growth of the company through strategic business development.
John brings over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, ranging from public accounting to finance and operations with multi-national corporations to finance and sales and marketing and strategic planning with a number of investment management firms.
John started his investment industry tenure at Fidelity Investments where he became Chief Financial Officer before starting his own business specializing in assisting companies launch themselves into the mutual fund market.
Prior to Qwest John was a partner and head of the Private Client Division at Hillsdale Investment Management, responsible for Sales & Marketing to investment advisors and high net worth individuals. During his time at Hillsdale the firm assets grew from $12 million to over $500 million.
John is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified General Accountant and a graduate of the University of Waterloo (Bachelor of Mathematics).
STEPHEN J. KANGAS, CPA, CA, CFA, CAIA
Steve is Executive Vice-President, Product Development and Marketing at Qwest Investment Management Corp. and Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd. and is responsible for new product initiatives including due diligence on investment managers and structuring of investment offerings. Steve also does business development of our alternative investment products to family offices, portfolio managers and investment advisors.
With Almost 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, including public accounting, banking and asset management, Steve has developed and marketed investment products including hedge funds and closed-end funds.
After completing his MBA, Steve began his tenure in the Canadian investment industry with Midland Walwyn Capital (now CIBC Wood Gundy) where he was the firm’s investment fund analyst responsible for due diligence and recommendation on all investment funds offered by the firm. As a subject matter expert, Steve was often quoted in the Canadian financial press and appeared on BNN. Steve was also an investment fund analyst at BMO Nesbitt Burns and TD Canada Trust.
Steve was also President & CEO of hedge fund manager, BluMont Capital Inc. a publicly-listed company that structured hedge fund offerings. Blumont had over $750 million of assets under management when Steve left to work with Manulife Financial.
At Manulife, Steve worked as head of Products Management for Manulife Asset Management and then for Manulife Capital Markets, designed and launched three listed closed-end funds raising almost $500 million.
Steve is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst. He is also a graduate of the University of Waterloo (Bachelor of Economics) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Master of Business Administration).
Victor is Senior Vice-President, Mutual Funds and a Director of Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd., a 100% wholly owned subsidiary of Qwest Investment Management Corp.
Victor is also the Chief Executive Officer of AlphaDelta Management Corp., an affiliate partner of Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd.
Victor has been involved in the financial services industry since 1988 holding executive roles in some of the largest investment management firms in the world. He served as Vice President, Director for AGF / 2020 Group of Funds (Canada’s third largest mutual fund company), Executive Vice-President, Canada and Director Global Institutional Group for Brandes Investment Partners Ltd. (a global investment management firm), President and CEO Therrien Wood & Co. (an investment council portfolio manager and limited market dealer) and Vice President (Ontario) Richardson Partners Financial (Canada’s sixth largest brokerage firm).
Victor has held positions on several executive committees, investment oversight committee and long-term strategic planning and product development committees. During his tenure, Victor has launched over twenty mutual funds and investment unit trusts. In addition, Victor is a board member of AlphaDelta Management Corp., Qwest Investment Funds Management Ltd. and Qwest Funds Corp.
Greg is Senior Vice-President Business Development at Qwest Investment Management Corp. and Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd. His responsibilities include product due diligence, brand awareness and the distribution of non-correlated investment product with specialized emphasis in real estate and other uncorrelated wealth diversification strategies. He is primarily focused upon family offices, portfolio managers and investment advisors. Greg has more than 25 years of combined private and public sector experience. He is an alumnus of Athol Murray College of Notre Dame and Concordia University. In 2000 he was awarded the Registered Financial Consultant designation and in 2010 Greg earned a certificate in value investing from the Ben Graham Centre for Value Investing at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. Greg has previously held senior management, executive and director positions within the distribution and asset management segments of the investment and financial services industries in Canada. Past professional experience includes the co-founding and executive management of a Venture Capital Corporation based in Ontario, Canada and subsequently co-establishing a publicly listed Capital Corporation with the Venture Exchange of the Toronto Stock Exchange. A background in law enforcement, securities regulation, compliance and corporate governance continues to assist Greg in his present capacity.
TOMAS Y. SETO
Tomas is the Vice-President, Compliance of Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd. and is responsible for managing all aspects of compliance. He brings with him 20 years of progressive experience in financial services including trading, supervision, credit, Canadian and U.S. regulatory compliance for broker-dealers, investment management, exempt market securities, privacy, and anti-money laundering.
Tomas’s previous experiences include Chief Compliance Officer at ZLC Wealth and Salman Partners. He was a member of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organizations of Canada (IIROC) Compliance and Legal Section (CLS), and was also an elected member of IIROC CLS Executive Committee. Prior to that Tomas was responsible for trading supervision of Institutional Equity and Fixed Income at Scotia Capital, Toronto.
Tomas graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Management from the University of Toronto.
In Tomas’s spare time, he aspires to be a business and sports commentator, and he enjoys the excitements of being a bartender and a background performer in recorded media.
DON SHORT, CFA
Don is the Senior Vice-President and Portfolio Manager and a Director of Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd.
As portfolio manager, Don is responsible for leading his Calgary-based portfolio management team in the research, analysis and selection of oil and gas investment opportunities for our natural resource sector focused flow-through offerings and mutual funds.
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Don has focused his professional investment career on Calgary’s oil and gas industry since the early 1990’s.
Prior to joining Qwest, Don managed his oil and gas sector investment funds at Origin Capital Management Ltd., a company he founded in 2006. Don’s other positions included: a principal of Core Partners Inc., a business advisory services company; an oil and gas research analyst at Raymond James Ltd; an institutional sales and investment analyst at FirstEnergy; and an oil and gas business analyst at Northridge Canada Inc.
Don holds two bachelor degrees (with distinction) from the University of Calgary in Commerce and Computer Science, and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Glenn is a Portfolio Manager of Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd.
Glenn has more than 35 years of investment management experience. This experience comprises managing a number of mining, resource and flow through limited partnerships including managing mining and resource funds for Sentry Investments and nine years as portfolio manager for Sentry Investments’ NCE flow through limited partnerships.
Glenn recently joined Qwest Investment Fund Management Ltd. (QIFM) as Portfolio Manager for the Probity Mining 2016 Short Duration Flow-Through Limited Partnership. Prior to joining QIFM, Glenn served as a portfolio manager for Pangaea Asset Management Inc., and as a Managing Director and portfolio manager for Bennington Investment Management. Glenn has also been Chief Investment Officer and senior portfolio manager at Lawrence Asset Management Inc. (LAMI) where he managed two income and growth funds as well as a global resource fund. Glenn spent several years at Sentry Investments where he was responsible for Sentry’s Investment Group and the portfolio manager of mining and resource funds. While at Sentry Investment Glenn spent nine years managing and investing the NCE flow through limited partnerships. Further experience includes being an Energy Equity Analyst with Scotia Capital Markets and HSBC Securities, where he covered integrated oil companies and a selection of petroleum companies, and six years as a portfolio manager with Imperial Life / Laurentian Financial Inc. where he managed several mineral and mining royalty positions.
Glenn is a Professional Engineer and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Glenn has been a regular contributor to BNN, GlobeinvestorGold and various other media about trends in the resource industry and investment issues in general.
